laptop keyboard replacement

Laptops are designed to be compact for portability purposes. But unfortunately, the constant change of placement (and improper care) puts the laptop at the risk of being spoiled. The laptop’s keyboard is the one that usually malfunctions due to the spoilage. Sometimes it would be impossible to repair the keyboard, and your last resort would be to replace the whole keyboard altogether. Laptop keyboard replacement is relatively easy as long as you remain patient all throughout the whole “operation”. This article will specifically guide you to a step-by-step guide on how to replace your laptop keyboard.

Before anything else, work in a place where you can’t produce any static energy. Somewhere not carpeted, and of course clean. Get the right tools ready, you only need a screwdriver, something plastic and flat like a card and the proper keyboard for your notebook.

Laptop keyboard replacement steps:

Step 1: Turn off the computer, and take the battery out. You do not want to electrocute yourself while trying to fix your laptop’s keyboard.

Step 2: Flip the notebook over and remove the screws that holds the keyboard bezel down in place. There should be 2 ore more screws depending on the model of your laptop.

Step 3: Remove the back cover, insert the card between the bezel and computer screen, and then gently pry the bezel out. Note that you could use anything else other than a card, as long as it is plastic and thin.

Step 4: Gently pull the keyboard away from the touchpad and turn it over. Unlock the plastic connector that holds the ribbon to the computer by carefully pulling up the two tabs located at each corner of the connector. This is the most crucial part of the “operation”. Make sure you do this with extra care so as to prevent any additional damage to the machine.

Step 5: Carefully remove the ribbon and the connector from the keyboard. Again, be very careful.

Step 6: Put the new keyboard back in place. Do steps 1-5 in reverse.

Always remember that the ribbon should not be twisted in any way. Screw it tight enough to hold everything back in place. If the new keyboard won’t work, try checking if the ribbon is inserted properly. If it is properly inserted, then you might want to reconsider getting a functional one.
